Loosing all your contact information can be a disaster, and being sure this does not every happen to you could not be easier with the iPhone! Your phone will probably come with a USB cable and a wall adapter. You can connect the cable to your phone and then plug it into the wall adapter to charge your phone. But, if you plug the cable into your computer, not only will it charge your battery, but it will automatically backup your iphone and sync all your contacts, calendars, notes, music, podcasts, etc. You can sync with any of the following contact management programs:
You should be very careful about syncing your phone if you frequently change information on your computer and your phone. iTunes will have a hard time deciding which files to keep if you make changes to both data files between sync sessions! If you are about to sit at your computer and makes changes to your calendar, for instance, you should sync your phone before you begin to be sure any changes you made to your phone are copied to your computer. Then when you finish making the changes to your computer, sync the phone again to copy the changes to your phone. If you don't follow this procedure, don't be surprised when changes you make in one location or the other seem to mysteriously disappear!
For convenience, you may want to purchase a dock (pictured above) which will allow you to simple insert the phone into a slot and it will remain upright while charging and syncing.
