- Ethridge Farm -
Nestled in the woods at the end of the blacktop just south of Kountze, Texas, Ethridge Farm is a working fruit farm located in the Big Thick of east Texas about 20 miles northeast of Beaumont. Owned by Bill and Ann Ethridge since 1968, most of the cabins are buildings that were originally used on the farm for other purposes, such as horse barns, etc. They have been beautifully remodeled by Bill and his staff to become some of the most quaint, appealing cabins you will find anywhere. "At the Log Cabin B & B, you will take a step back in time. You are welcome to stroll in the woods under the giant oak, pine and magnolia trees or just "sit a spell" by the pond or even fish. You can feel the peace and quiet of the wonderful country life. A few hours back to nature can be as refreshing as a weeks vacation. Join us at our "oasis" in the deep piney woods near Kountze, Texas. The Farm is located about 23 miles north of Beaumont and 3 miles south of Kountze in the Big Thicket area. Wake up to a real country breakfast - You can pick your own fruit, in season, and it can't get any fresher than that!" The farm has blueberries that begin to ripen around the end of May and can be picked throughout the month of June. Click here for pictures and more information about the blueberries. The mayhaw berries are ready for picking beginning late April through May. While this fruit is unpleasant to eat right off the tree, it makes a wonderful jelly. Click here to view image. Mandarin oranges grown on the farm are some of the sweetest you will find anywhere! They are ready for picking in the late fall around September and October. While the food served by Ann at the farm is excellent, you might want to sample some of the fine seafood and other menu items offered by the other quality restaurants in the area.
